What is a Geriatric?

Geriatric refers to medical care for the elderly, focusing on the biological, sociological, and psychological changes associated with aging. It is a specialty dedicated to the care of aging individuals, typically those over 65 years, who require skilled care to manage the challenges of aging.

What is a Geriatric center?

A geriatric care center is an outpatient health facility dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of senior adult patients.

What is Geriatric Spitex?

Geriatric Spitex is a term primarily used in German-speaking countries, specifically Switzerland, to refer to home care services for elderly individuals. It's a non-profit organization that provides in-home nursing care, including tasks like changing bandages, administering medication, and general assistance with daily living activities. Essentially, Spitex aims to help elderly people maintain their independence and quality of life by providing care in their own homes rather than requiring institutionalization in nursing homes.

Retirement Residences & Nursing Care for Expats & Diaspora Ugandans

No place like home in Uganda for expats who retire abroad. Many lifelong expatriates find Uganda an attractive retirement destination due to its relaxed lifestyle and wonderful climate.

For Ugandan diaspora members, retiring in their ancestral home is a cultural imperative. This project aims to provide a secure and caring environment for clients who have worked hard all their lives.

Please participate in our Diasporans Survey.

Providing a self-reliant life to all Indian-Ugandan retired senior citizens who wish to foster strong, social, and inter-generational roots in their communities around Uganda.

Most older people prefer to remain in their own homes as they age. Our project will support this preference by offering special services, including 24-hour online support from family carers and doctors.

Our Clients

Our target customers are retirees over 50 years old, particularly those in the diaspora who wish to return to Uganda, expats and the Ugandan Elderly. They may not necessarily be of Ugandan heritage but find Uganda desirable to live in.

Retirement in Uganda

Retirement in Uganda is not typically a common choice for most international retirees, but it does attract a specific demographic.

Those who choose to retire in Uganda often do so for a variety of unique reasons. The typical profile of a retiree in Uganda usually includes individuals who have developed a strong connection to the country, possibly through previous work experience in the region, such as in NGOs, diplomatic services, or multinational corporations. Others may have familial or cultural ties to Uganda.

One of the primary attractions for retirees in Uganda is the country’s natural beauty and biodiversity. Uganda offers a serene environment, especially for those who appreciate wildlife and natural landscapes, including national parks, lakes, and mountains.

The climate is also a significant draw, with its generally mild and pleasant conditions.

In terms of retirement communities or areas, there aren't specific retirement villages or communities as you might find in some other countries. However Geavoj is ready to transform your place in to a small retirement community.

Retiring in Uganda does come with its challenges.

Healthcare

Healthcare is a primary concern, as medical facilities in Uganda may not always meet the standards that some expats are accustomed to, especially outside of major cities.

Expats retiring in Uganda often opt for health insurance that covers medical evacuation in case of serious health issues if they need support.

The bureaucratic process

Another challenge is the bureaucratic process, which can sometimes be slow and complex, particularly when dealing with immigration and property-related matters. Ensuring legal and financial matters are in order, often with the help of a local lawyer or advisor, is crucial. We work with 2 Law firms if you need help.

The cost of living in Uganda can be favorable, but it largely depends on your lifestyle choices.

Uganda's Geriatric Health Care Analysis

There are an increasing number of people that are aging.

Therefore, they need specialist care from various categories of health care workers and other professionals on geriatric medicine and gerontology. There are few geriatricians in Africa. This is because there are few training centres in the continents. Also, most of the geriatricians are trained on the other side of the continent overseas.

Africa, the poorest and youngest populated region in the world, is set to see a rapid increase in the number of older persons in the coming three decades. While the expected increase in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases is already evident, sparse data exist on the geriatric syndromes.

Public healthcare is generally are unprepared for the care of older persons and private care unaffordable.

Training in Geriatric Medicine is limited to a small number of facilities.

Despite the African Union Policy Framework and Plan of Action on Aging, there has been very little progress on the implementation of age-sensitive policies.

There is an urgent need to improve the care of older persons in the Region.
